OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Old Dominion rowing advanced all four boats to the Petite Finals of the Big 12 Rowing Championships to be raced on Sunday, May 14 at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The top three teams from each preliminary heat raced on Saturday advanced to the Grand Finals, while the remaining two teams will battle it out in the Petite Final.
ODU's First Eight raced in the second of two heats for a chance to advance to the Grand Final on Sunday. The boat led by coxswain Ave McFadden finished fourth with a time of 6:46.945 behind Oklahoma, Tennessee and Kansas State.
The Second V8+ boat competed in race three, the first heat of the second eight boats, against teams from Texas, Kansas State and Kansas. The Lady Monarchs finished fourth (7:13.333) to advance to the Petite Final tomorrow morning.
ODU's first four raced against Texas, Tennessee and Kansas, in the fifth race of the afternoon. The crew led by sophomore coxswain Monique McNealy, placed fourth after finishing with a time of 7:52.074.
In the last race of the day, the third eight for ODU came in fourth (7:24.858) behind teams from Oklahoma, Alabama and Tennessee.
All of ODU's boats move on to compete tomorrow, Sunday in the Petite Finals on day two of the Big 12 Rowing Championships.
