Rowing Places 14 On Big 12 Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion rowing had 14 student-athletes represented on the 2017 Big 12 All-Academic teams released by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

A full list of rowers from Old Dominion who made the Big 12 All-Academic team can be found below. Seven of the 14 ODU student-athletes are repeat selections on the Big 12 academic team, including four, three-time honorees in Carlie Cohen, Kennedy Stafford, Kara Stephan and Raven Woody.

In total 176 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic first and second teams. The first team is comprised of 159 honorees, while the second team totaled 17.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Old Dominion is back on the water this weekend as they head to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the 2017 Big 12 Rowing Championships. Competition begins on Saturday, May 13, at  2:00 p.m. and continues to Sunday, May 14, wrapping up around 12 noon.
