ATHENS, Ga. -- Katerina Vlasinova and Charlotte De Corte tied for 27th place in stroke play on the first day of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic hosted by University of Georgia. As a team, the Monarchs placed 11th in a field consisting of six top 20 nationally-ranked teams, and will continue on in match play Saturday and Sunday in the Black Bracket.
Hosting Georgia, ranked eighth by GolfStat, won the stroke play round as a team while No. 1 Alabama and No. 52 Denver tied for second. The 59th-ranked Monarchs placed 11th, ahead of No. 89 Troy.
Vlasinova and De Corte shot 79 (+7) to finish the one round of stroke play in 27th place, while Maggie Simmermacher, who shot an 81 (+9) , tied for 38th place.
The Monarchs will head to the Black Bracket of match play to battle it out first with 11th-ranked South Carolina Saturday at 9:20 a.m. and will then play No. 22 Purdue at 2:20 p.m. ODU will close out the event Sunday at 8:20 a.m. against No. 89 Troy.
