IRVING, TEXAS – Former Old Dominion University Football offensive lineman Tyler Compton was named to the 2017 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
Compton played in 43 career games on the offensive line, playing at right and left guard and center. He started 13 games in his career, including three this season.
A native of Virginia Beach, Compton was a three-time Conference USA All-Academic Team honoree and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. He completed his undergraduate degree in mathematics in two and a half years, and will graduate with his MBA this spring.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:
· Being a starter or a significant contributor in one’s last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
· Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and Meeting all NCAA/NAIA mandated progress towards degree requirements
This is the third-straight season ODU has produced a player on the honor society, as Joe Pulisic earned the honor last season and Josh Mann received the accolade in 2015.
