NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's soccer head coach Angie Hind announced the team's 2017 schedule, which includes eight home matches and nine on the road, 10 C-USA games, three contests against 2016 NCAA Tournament participants and three clashes against in-state opponents.
“Every year we try to set up a schedule that will provide games that both challenge but also excite us,” explained Hind. “This year is no exception and we are thrilled to announce the schedule we have for the upcoming fall season. While we pitch ourselves against good in-state rival programs such as George Mason, VCU and Richmond, we have also added some new opponents to our schedule. We welcome last years' America East Conference champions, Albany to Norfolk, and probably the pick of our non-conference games is hosting Duke here at ODU. That's a game that is huge for our program and I'm excited to welcome a team of their caliber here.”
The highlight of the non-conference schedule is when Duke, a 2016 NCAA quarterfinalist, comes to the ODU Soccer Complex on Aug. 27. In regards to Old Dominion's seven-match non-conference slate, three matches will take place at home (George Mason, Albany and Duke), while the other four will be on the road (VCU, ECU, UNCW and Richmond).
“With regards to the C-USA, our league is becoming closer each year and there is much more parity across the conference,” said Hind. “We are pleased that we are again scheduled to play all the top teams in our conference and look forward to games against Rice, North Texas and reigning C-USA champs Charlotte all being here on our turf. With a solid spring behind us and the introduction of a strong group coming in to join the squad, as a staff and team we are very much looking forward to the Fall of 2017.”
In conference play, the Monarchs will welcome WKU (Sep. 15), FIU (Oct. 8), Rice (Oct. 19), North Texas (Oct. 22) and Charlotte (Oct. 27). Old Dominion will travel to FAU (Sep. 22), UTSA (Sep. 29), UTEP (Oct. 1), Southern Miss (Oct. 13) and LA Tech (Oct. 15). Below (as well as attached) is a complete look at Old Dominion's schedule.
