NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion lacrosse team fell to Mercer on senior day, 10-8, in Atlantic Sun conference action Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The Lady Monarchs fall to 7-8, 3-5, while the Bears from Mercer improve to 12-3, 7-1, with one weekend left in the regular season.

Junior Cydney Tutchton and senior Morgan Marrale each scored twice to lead the Lady Monarch attack. Katie Miller, Connor Carson, Megan Cameron and Brooke Stein all tallied a goal in the Lady Monarchs loss.

ODU controlled the shots taking 33 to Mercer’s 24, won in draw controls 14-6 and went a perfect 16-16 on clear attempts. Maggi Buckley made seven saves while allowing 10 goals playing the full 60 minutes in net.

Erica Coyne led the Bears with four goals, followed by Kate Leone with two. Mercer’s keeper, Haleigh Wurzel, made 13 saves giving up the eight goals to ODU.

The Lady Monarchs will by back in action as they wrap up the regular season on the road in the nations capitol. ODU takes on Howard, Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C. and then head up the road to Dover, Delaware to face the Hornets of Delaware State, Saturday, April 29 at 12 noon.

Mercer opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Lindsey Zeltwanger. Connor Carson scored her lone goal of the game in the ninth minute to tie the game one all. The teams remained tied for about 10 minutes before the Bears pulled ahead 2-1, courtesy of Coyne.

Back-to-back Lady Monarch goals by Marrale and Miller gave ODU its first lead of the game up 3-2. MU tied the game at three all as the teams headed into halftime in a stalemate.

Coming back to action, Mercer started off the scoring once again to go up 4-3. The Lady Monarchs responded with back-to-back Tutchton goals to take a 5-4 lead, their last of the game.

Mercer went on to score four unanswered goals and taking an 8-5 lead with 16:34 to play. Stein and Marrale scored to close the gap, drawing within one, 8-7, of the Bears.

Two goals by Coyne put the Bears ahead by three, 10-7, with 5:38 remaining. Megan Cameron scored the last goal of the game, but time was not in the Lady Monarchs favor as the home team fell 10-8.
