NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones announced Justice Kithcart as the newest member of the team on Thursday morning. Kithcart is a 6-foot-1 guard from Durham, N.C. and played his first season at Pittsburgh. Kithcart will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have three years of eligibility remaining. Kithcart marks the second student-athlete from an ACC school to transfer to ODU in as many days.
“We are very familiar with Justice, having recruited him out Virginia Episcopal School two years ago,” said Jones. “Justice is an outstanding young man and an extremely intense competitor that will have an immediate impact at the point guard position after the transfer redshirt year.”
Kithcart began his high school career at Riverside High School in Durham, N.C., earning First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
The 185-pound guard played his sophomore season at Hillside High School in Durham, N.C. and earned Second Team All-State accolades, as well as First Team All-Conference and All-Area honors. He averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a sophomore.
Kithcart played his final two seasons at Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Va., averaging 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a senior. He led the team to a Virginia Independent School Athletic Association State Championship and was named to the All-State First Team by the News Advocate. He averaged 24.5 points per game in the state playoffs.
As a freshman at Pittsburgh, Kithcart appeared in 29 games and averaged 13.3 minutes per contest. He averaged 1.3 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
“I would like to thank Coach Jones and his staff for taking me in as a part of their family,” Kithcart said. “I am ready to come in and contribute to the team and the entire school. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for me.”
Kithcart joins Wake Forest transfer Greg McClinton, as well as high school seniors Marquis Godwin (Hampton, Va.) and Michael Hueitt Jr. (Fayetteville, N.C.) as the newest members to the Monarch basketball team.
