Monarchs, Simmermacher Conclude Day 2 at C-USA Championships in 2nd

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Old Dominion women's golf team is in second place heading into the third and final day of the 2017 C-USA Championships at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, Florida, as ODU is just four strokes behind Middle Tennessee. Individually, Maggie Simmermacher is also in second place, four strokes behind Jenna Burris of MTSU. 

Simmermacher fired a 1-over 73 in round two to retain her second place standing heading into tomorrow's final round. Katerina Vlasinova, who shot a 4-over 76 in round one, improved by seven strokes today to climb into the top 10, as the junior Monarch is now (+1) in fifth place of 55 golfers in the field.

Charlotte De Corte is tied for 26th (+8), Sana Tufail is one stroke behind her (+9) in 30th and Rachel Walker is in 33rd (+10).

The top-seeded Monarchs (+11) enter day three of the conference tournament trailing Middle Tennessee by four strokes (+7) and have an eight-stroke lead over current third-place team UTSA (+19).  

ODU has recorded the second-best par four average (4.17) of all 11 schools through two rounds and has sunk 27 birdies, the second-most of any team.

Simmermacher is in a tie for best par four average (3.85) with tournament leader Jenna Burris (MTSU) of all golfers in the tournament.  

The final round gets back underway tomorrow morning from the Verandah Club's Old Orange course.
