NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer head coach Alan Dawson announced the addition of Ryan McLaughlin to the 2017-18 roster.

McLaughlin is a transfer student from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he played two seasons on defense for the Golden Norsemen.

During his athletic career at NEO, McLaughlin collected numerous accolades including a third-team All-American nod as a freshman.  Also during his freshman campaign he was named the Region II Player of the Year, tournament MVP, and earned spots on the All-Regional and All-Tournament teams.

As a sophomore, McLaughlin continued to shine as he earned a spot on the Region II All-Regional and All-Tournament teams for a second consecutive year. He was named team captain after a unanimous vote by the coaches and teammates. Ryan played as a central defender his sophomore year and tallied three goals for the Golden Norsemen.

Academically Ryan was voted to the Top-10 Freshmen on campus which is an award based on academic achievement and community service during a student-athletes freshman year on campus.

McLaughlin qualified for the President’s Honor Roll and was selected for the Carl Rigney Award in his sophomore year. The Carl Rigney award is given each year at NEO to the top academic achieving athlete base on GPA, Major, and community service.

Prior to playing at NEO A&M, Ryan played for the Sorrento FC U18 & U20 teams in the NPL in Western Australia and earned the honor of the best player on each team.
