NORFOLK, Va. -- With three All-American finishes, Old Dominion wrestling's 2012 recruiting class was reranked No. 5 by FloWrestling, a 17-slot jump from five years ago.
"It is great to see a statistic like this that shows how our recruiting class of 2012 jumped levels and out-performed 17 schools that were ranked ahead of us," head coach Steve Martin commented. "This is a testament to the hard work of our coaching staff and student-athletes, and it clearly demonstrates just how fortunate we are to have a support staff and administrators like President Broderick and Dr. Wood Selig who provide us with the resources to succeed."
Flo's "Recruiting Rewind" looked back at the nation's top prospects from the high school graduating class of 2012 in an effort to rerank each college team's recruiting class. The article aimed to see "which recruiting classes lived up to their blue-chip status or disappointed" once the athletes' eligibility exhausted.
Back in 2012, Old Dominion's recruiting class was tabbed as the nation's 22nd-best. Now, five years later, Flo ranked the Monarchs No. 5 behind only Iowa, Lehigh, Cornell and Wisconsin. Old Dominion made the largest jump in the rankings of any team.
Among ODU's class of 2012, Alexander Richardson was a three-time NCAA qualifier and 2015 All-American, Jack Dechow was a four-time NCAA qualifier and 2014 All-American and Kevin Beazley qualified for nationals twice and claimed All-American honors just last month.
