NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion dropped the opening game of this weekend's three-game series to LA Tech, 7-3, on Friday evening at the Bud Metheny Complex.

Old Dominion (25-10, 9-4 C-USA) grabbed the early lead after back-to-back doubles by Jared Young and Zach Rutherford in the bottom of the first.

LA Tech (22-12, 5-8 C-USA) answered with three runs in the top of third, including a go-ahead two-run home run by Chase Lunceford off of ODU starter Sam Sinnen.

In the bottom of the third, Vinnie Pasquantino's solo shot to right field, his fourth home run of the season, cut the LT lead to one, but the Bulldogs scored another run in the top of the fourth to push the lead back to two.

After Sinnen left at the end of six, the Bulldogs posted a three spot in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 7-2. ODU added a run in the ninth to close the final score to 7-3.

Overall, Sinnen, who moved to 1-2 on the year, went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out three. Michael Blanchard and Ruston native Jim Wilkerson both tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen for ODU.

At the plate, Vinnie Pasquantino finished the night 2-for-4 with a home run and Turner Bishop went 2-for-4 with a double. The multi-hit game was Pasquantino's 14th of the year, which ranks second on the team, behind only Rutherford.

The Monarchs have lost the opening game of a series twice this season, but have come back to win both of those series against Rutgers and Charlotte.

ODU and LA Tech resume the series tomorrow at 4 p.m. on CUSA.tv. Adam Bainbridge is projected to start for the Monarchs.
