MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Old Dominion lacrosse fell 11-10 in overtime to Central Michigan Thursday night in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Laruen Irvine scored the game tying goal to force overtime but the Lady Monarchs could not hold off the Chippewa’s who picked up their second Atlantic Sun conference win.
ODU scored the final three goals of regulation to tie the game after trailing by as many as four goals early in the second half. The Lady Monarchs scored nine goals in the second half before falling in the golden goal overtime period to Central Michigan.
Connor Carson and Lauren Irvine scored twice for Old Dominion, while six other Lady Monarchs each collected a goal of their own in the game. Maggi Buckley collected seven saves giving up 11 goals and falls to 6-6, 2-3 in net for ODU.
The Chippewa’s held the Lady Monarchs to just one goal in the first half that came in the 27th minute of action. Connor Carson was the one that finally got ODU on the board with 3:27 remaining as Central Michigan went into the half with a 4-1 lead.
Morgan Marrale opened the second half with a goal for ODU just 27 seconds back to action. CMU answered with back-to-back goals to pull ahead 6-2, but ODU answered with a couple of goals to cut the lead down to two, 6-4, with 24 minutes to play.
Sophia Richie and Connor Carson got the Silver and Blue within two goals, 6-4, and five minutes later Katie Miller scored to close the gap to one, 6-5.
Riley Huda grew CMU’s lead back to two but Megan Cameron responded swiftly closing the gap back to one, 7-6.
CMU went on a 3-1 run taking a 10-7 lead with under 10 to play. Old Dominion scored three consecutive goals to tie the game and force overtime courtesy of the Irvine goal assisted by Carson with 4:39 to play.
The two teams went scoreless through the first two minutes of overtime but Natalie Karlen connected with the net on a pass from Jocelyn Lemay to push the Chippewa’s past the Lady Monarchs 11-10 in the golden goal overtime period.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Saturday, April 15, as they travel to Detroit Mercy for their second ASUN conference game. First draw is at 11 am in Detroit, Michigan.
