IRVING, Texas -- Old Dominion women's golfer Katerina Vlasinova was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week after finishing third out of 85 golfers at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Georgia on Tuesday.
Competing in a field with two top-25 ranked teams and one top-25 ranked individual, Vlasinova fired 70-75-71 (E) en route to a third-place tie. She also sunk 12 birdies, which tied for the second-most of all 85 golfers, and recorded the third-best par five scoring average in the tournament (4.75).
With the third-place finish, Vlasinova placed two slots ahead of Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk, who entered the tournament ranked No. 19 in the nation.
Vlasinova's performance helped pace the No. 59 Monarchs, who went on to finish in seventh place out of 15 teams ahead of No. 56 Maryland. ODU also finished one stroke ahead of Troy, a team ODU was narrowly defeated by in match play just days ago at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
The C-USA Women's Golfer of the Week award was the first for Vlasinova this season and the second of her career. She also became the first Monarch to receive Golfer of the Week distinction this spring.
