NORFOLK, Va. – Rising seniors Jackie Stroud (Raleigh, N.C.) and Deirdre Bradley (Newtown Square, Pa.) of the Old Dominion women’s soccer team were named captains for the upcoming season, as announced by head coach Angie Hind.
“I am genuinely excited to be able to name Jackie and Deirdre as captains for our program this year,” said Hind. “Both of them are bright and engaging young women who represent and typify all that is important to the identity of ODU women’s soccer.”
Both Stroud and Bradley have appeared in every possible game throughout their previous three seasons.
A Deeper Look: Hind on Stroud
“This will be Jackie’s second year as captain and her fifth season overall, so she already has great maturity and understanding of what it takes to be a great leader and rally the team for future success. Being a very talented player who has a key role in the center of our back line, as well as her presence, understanding and leadership on the field this past year was fantastic and I am so excited to see her influence even more this fall.”
A Deeper Look: Hind on Bradley
“Deirdre Bradley has impacted this program from the first day and has shouldered responsibility for her own development and also cared for the welfare of the team for three years now. She is extremely hard-working and committed to this program and also plays a key role on the field marshaling our midfield. As a talented and driven individual, she exemplifies what it takes to be the best at this level and I think this is infectious and can truly influence the young class coming in.”
Hind on the Impact of Captains
“For both of them I am really pleased and I know that they are honored to be selected to lead this program in what we feel will be an exciting year. We will bring in our largest recruiting class to date and therefore having strong captains and senior mentors will be key for us. I look forward to witnessing them make a lasting impact within the on-field success of the team, as well as in our team culture.”
