Men's Golf Leads 14-Team Field at Pinehurst Intercollegiate -- Day 1

PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men's golf team jumped out to an early lead after day one of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate Friday, as the Monarchs fired a 292 (+8) and will head into day two of the tournament in first place out of 14 teams. 

ODU has three golfers within the top 10 after round one and all five Monarchs are in the top 15 currently. 

Chad Hess leads the pack of Monarchs after firing a one-over 72 in round one, as the junior currently sits in a three-way tie for fourth place. David Langley and Antonio Cruz-Conde are tied for seventh place, as both shot a two-over 73 this morning.

Michael Bakker and Calvin Greschner are in a three-way tie for 13th place, as both Monarchs shot a three-over 74 in round one.

Statistically, the Monarchs lead the 14-team field in two separate categories, as ODU registered the best par four scoring average (4.02) in round one and leads all teams with 12 birdies. 

Individually, Bakker is tied with Marshall's Cole Moore for most birdies with four on the day.
