NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team (6-3) travels to Texas to take on No. 13 Baylor (7-2) and North Texas (4-6). The Lady Monarchs will be in Waco to take on the Bears on Thursday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. Old Dominion will wrap up its trip in Texas the following day, Friday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on the Mean Green in Denton.
Old Dominion freshman standout No. 68 Holly Hutchinson improved to 6-1 on the season with her singles win in the No. 2 spot against Virginia Tech. No. 112 Borislava Botusharova is 6-2 on the season, while Eliska Petrackova is 4-3 on the year.
Meet No. 13 Baylor:
The Baylor Bears are currently ranked No. 13 in the nation and have started the season 7-2. The Bears started the season on a 6-match winning streak.
The Bears have two players ranked inside the top 105 of the ITA rankings. Senior Blair Shankle (5-0) is ranked at No. 14 in the nation. Fellow senior Rhiann Newborn (6-2) is ranked at No. 105 nationally. Baylor also has a ranked doubles pair of Blair Shankle/Elizabeth Profit who are ranked No. 18.
Meet North Texas:
North Texas has started the season off 4-6, but is currently on a two-match winning streak. The Mean Green has one player ranked in the top 100 of the ITA rankings in sophomore Maria Kononova, who is ranked at No. 74 in the nation and boasts a 9-1 record to start the spring.
