INDIANAPOLIS -- Old Dominion wrestling 165-pounder Seldon Wright received an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA DI Wrestling Championships to be held March 16-18 in St. Louis, as was announced by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon. Wright joins fellow Monarchs Alex Madrigal, Michael Hayes, Jack Dechow and Kevin Beazley to give ODU five NCAA qualifiers.
A sophomore from Chesapeake, Wright compiled a 20-10 record on the season and placed fourth at last weekend's MAC Championships, falling just one win shy of an automatic bid to the national tournament.
The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking and qualifying event placement.
Wright was chosen among seven other wrestlers who received at-large bids to nationals in the 165 lb. weight class.
