VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Old Dominion University Sailing participated in the 25th annual Virginia Beach Polar Plunge last weekend.

The event raised more than $1.1 million dollars to Special Olympics Virginia, while the sailing team raised more $1,600 for the event.

“I think it shows that we as a team support the community as well as our school. For some people they have family members or friends that participate in the Special Olympics so I think that means a lot to us as a team to help support it,” senior Olivia Windemuller said.

The sailing team has been participating in the Polar Plunge for the last six plus years and enjoys continuing to go back to the event.

“I’m a health and physical education major so this is very important to me,” senior Jocelyn Rovniak said. “We volunteer at the Little Feet Meet (hosted at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium) as well so when we got to do this as a team it meant a lot. Our team did go out of their way to raise money and when we were there it brought our team together.”

The sailing team begins its season next Saturday when they compete in the ODU Quad and the USF Women’s Regatta.
