COLUMBUS, OHIO – Old Dominion University running back Ray Lawry has been named a 2017 player to watch by the TD Club of Columbus. Lawry will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the 62nd Annual TDC Awards.
Lawry finished his junior season with ODU single season records with 200 carries for 1,255 yards along with 11 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 134 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown catch on the first play of the season.
In the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl, Lawry was named the games Offensive MVP, rushing 23 times for 133 yards and catching two passes for 14 yards.
A native of Logan Township, N.J., Lawry finished the season 30th in FBS with 104.6 rushing yards per game. He had seven 100-yard rushing games on the season, and ended the year having rushed for more than 100-yards in five of the last six games, and three-straight to end the year. He recorded a season-high 27 carries for 209 yards in the bowl eligibility-clinching win over Marshall.
Lawry has the three highest single-season rushing totals in ODU history, and holds school career records with 528 carries for 3,338 yards and 38 rushing touchdowns, and he has rushed for more than 100-yards 18 times in his career. He also holds the total touchdown record with 40.
