MACON, Ga. – Old Dominion women’s lacrosse was picked to finish second in the Atlantic Sun while Connor Carson earned a spot among the 2017 Preseason All-Conference team announced by the conference office on Friday.

The Lady Monarchs were chosen to finish the season second in ASUN conference standings. Old Dominion, who finished 16-4 and set a new record for program wins, won the 2016 ASUN Conference Tournament title after defeating Detroit Mercy 11-10 in overtime. 

Connor Carson represents the Lady Monarchs on the preseason All-Conference team, while Cydney Tutchton and Kerri Caruso were placed on the ASUN watchlist. Carson finished the 2016 season with 25 goals and four assists and started all 20 matches at the midfield position. In addition she collected 21 groundballs, 70 draw controls and forced 23 turnovers.

The reigning 2016 regular season champion Jacksonville, led the way with four student-athletes voted into the preseason all-conference team. The Dolphins also were voted most likely to win the conference this season by coaches throughout the conference.

Furman was picked to finish third this season behind Jacksonville and ODU. Coming in fourth is Coastal Carolina who is a new addition to ASUN Women’s Lacrosse. Detroit Mercy was next on the list to round out the top five picks of the preseason coaches poll.  

Mercer (6th), Kennesaw State (7th), Central Michigan (8th), Stetson (9th), Delaware State (10th) and Howard (11th) completed the remainder of the standings. The ASUN added Delaware State and Coastal Carolina for women’s lacrosse this season increasing the league to 11 teams.

Old Dominion starts the 2017 season off with five consecutive road trips, four against in-state opponents. The season opener for the Lady Monarchs is Wednesday, February 15 at 4 p.m. against the Rams of VCU in Richmond, Va.
