WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sebastien Hauret, a redshirt freshman from Paris, France, was named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year on Wednesday afternoon.
Hauret appeared in all 17 matches for the Monarchs starting 12 in the center attacking midfield position. He finished the year with a team-leading 11 points off two goals and seven assists, also a team-high.
The ODU midfielder earned a spot on the 2016 Conference USA All-Freshman squad for his efforts throughout the season. Hauret also received C-USA offensive player of the week laurels on September 12, after recording the game-winning goal over 18th ranked Radford and an assist on the lone goal in the loss to No. 23 Vermont, during the 41st annual ODU Soccer Classic.
Virginia’s Edward Opoku received VaSID top honors as he headlines the VaSID All-State team as well as garnering the state player of the year title. Rounding out the major awards is Virginia Tech’s Mike Brizendine, who was named the organization’s coach of the year after leading his Hokies to 13 wins and a College Cup Quarterfinal berth.
In all, eight Virginia schools had representation on the all-state teams. Virginia, William & Mary, and Radford led the way with four selections apiece, while Virginia Tech, Liberty, and VCU had three. Longwood had a pair of representatives, and Old Dominion had one.
VaSID names 27 All-State teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions.
Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
