Lady Monarchs, Hampton Set for Clash at The Ted

NORFOLK, Va. -- 
The Old Dominion women's basketball team welcomes Hampton to the Ted Constant Center on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m.

The game will be streamed live online at CUSA.tv and can also be heard on ESPN Radio 94.1. Both the video and radio streams will feature commentary from Doug Ripley (pbp) and Susan Montgomery (color).

Sunday's showdown is the second leg of a doubleheader with men's basketball, as the men host Georgia State at 2 p.m. at The Ted. With the purchase of a men's game ticket, fans can remain in the stands and watch the women's game.

Old Dominion (4-3) is coming off of a historic 70-60 victory over VCU on Dec. 9. The victory over the Rams was head coach Karen Barefoot's 300th of her head coaching career.

The Lady Monarchs have been led by senior co-captains Jennie Simms and Destinee Young in the early part of the season. Simms ranks second in the NCAA in scoring with 26.4 points per game, while Young has posted six double-doubles, which ranks fifth in the country.

Gianna Smith has reached double figures in two of the last four games off the bench for ODU and freshman Manaya Jones, who has started the last two games, ranks third on the team in scoring and rebounding. As a team, ODU is outrebounding opponents by a margin of a seven rebounds per game and is a shooting 43.1 percent, while holding opponents to 37.6 percent. 

Hampton (5-5) enters Sunday having won four of its last five after opening the season with four consecutive losses to Power 5 opponents. Two-time MEAC Player of the Year Malia Tate-Defreitas leads the Lady Pirates, averaging 16.6 points per game. As a team, Hampton forces 20 turnovers per game and holds opponents to 38.5 percent shooting.

ODU leads the all-time series, 5-0.
