Compton Named ODU Recipient of C-USA Spirit of Service Award

IRVING, TEXAS – Old Dominion University Football senior offensive lineman Tyler Compton was named ODU’s recipient of the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, C-USA announced on Wednesday.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award will be presented three times throughout the season, with today’s honorees representing Conference USA’s fall sports: football, soccer, volleyball and cross country.

For the third-straight year, Compton earned inTouch Conference USA All-Academic honors and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the third-straight season.

A former walk-on, Compton has started 13 career games on the offensive line, including three this season. He made two starts at left guard and started the regular season finale at right guard.

Compton graduated with a 3.92 GPA in mathematics in two and a half years and is on track to receive his MBA in the spring of 2017.

During his time at Old Dominion, he volunteered with Equi Kids of Virginia Beach and volunteered at the ODU Little Feet Meet and Bone Marrow Drives.

ODU takes on Eastern Michigan in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Friday, Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
