NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Murray Rudisill and the Old Dominion men's golf program announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2017-18 season on Thursday.

This year's signing class includes a pair of Europeans in Gustav Fransson of Sweden and Kyle Reid of Scotland.

"We are so pleased to have Gustav coming to ODU next fall," said Rudisill about Fransson. "He has had an outstanding amateur record in Sweden and has played well in a lot of international golf tournaments. It will be great to have the second Swedish player to sign in the last two years. Gustav will have the potential to be in the starting lineup immediately."

Fransson joins fellow Sweden native Casper Aneman on the ODU roster. Fransson, a native of Umea, Sweden, attended Celsiusskolan Uppsala high school. His best tournament result was a 4-under (68, 68) at Torekovpokalen.

"We are excited to have another golfer from Great Britain," said Rudisill about Reid. "We have not signed a player from Scotland in the past few years. Kyle has an excellent junior record and has been trained by the Scottish boys organization and has been highly recommended to us. Kyle will bring in some advanced academic credits that will qualify for classes here at Old Dominion. He has a great golf swing and will be competing immediately for one of our starting five golfers.”

Reid, who hails from Bearsden, Scotland, attended the Bearsden Academy. Reid was a member of the Scotland U18 Boys Performance Squad and has represented Scotland at both U16 and U18 levels. Reid placed sixth at Scottish Schools U18 Championship and finished fifth at the St. Andrews Boys U18 Championship.

The 2016-17 Monarchs concluded their fall season with a runner-up finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in late October. ODU opens the spring season with Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs, California, on Feb. 16.
