NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion basketball team (4-2) will travel to Towson (4-3) on Saturday, Dec. 3 for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff. The Monarchs will remain on the road for a Tuesday, Dec. 6 showdown at No. 21 Rhode Island (5-2) at 7:00 p.m.
ODU vs. Towson
• Old Dominion leads the all-time series, 27-2.
• Towson won the last meeting, 68-66, in Norfolk on Jan. 30, 2013.
• Old Dominion is 10-0 all-time in games played in Towson.
• Saturday marks the 30th meeting all-time between TU and ODU.
ODU vs. Rhode Island
• Old Dominion leads the all-time series, 3-2.
• ODU won the last meeting, 71-65, in Norfolk on Dec. 22, 2015.
• The Monarchs are 1-1 overall at Rhode Island; their win came during the 1981-82 season (62-56), while the loss came during the 1979-80 season (77-63).
Monarch Nuggets
Old Dominion has picked up wins over JMU (62-55), Richmond (64-61), St. John’s (63-55) and Dartmouth (59-47), while suffering losses against No. 10 Louisville (OT, 68-62) and LSU (66-60).
Brandan Stith leads the Monarchs in scoring with 13.3 ppg to compliment his 7.5 rpg. Also averaging double-figures are Ahmad Caver (11.3) and Jordan Baker (10.2). Denzell Taylor leads the squad in rebounding, hauling down 9.2 per contest, including 4.83 offensive boards per game, which ranks 5th in the nation.
As a team, ODU ranks No. 5 in the country for offensive rebounds per game with 16.5. The Monarchs are holding opponents to 58.7 points per game, which ranks No. 11 in the NCAA. Old Dominion’s 43.67 total rebounds per contest ranks 15th nationally.
Towson
The Tigers have picked up wins against George Mason (67-61), Morgan State (78-72), Stony Brook (88-63) and Goucher (99-37), while suffering setbacks to Maryland (71-66), Boston College (80-70) and Robert Morris (67-66).
Towson was picked to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) preseason poll. Senior forward Arnuad William Adala Moto and junior guard Mike Morsell were named to the preseason All-CAA team.
Rhode Island
The nationally ranked Rams have picked up wins against Dartmouth (84-61), Marist (107-65), Brown (79-72), Cincinnati (76-71) and Belmont (82-73), while suffering loses against Duke (75-65) and Valparaiso (65-62).
Rhode Island was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10, as E.C. Matthews and Hassan Martin were selected to the preseason all-conference team.
Radio for Saturday and Tuesday
Old Dominion Senior Associate Athletic Director Ted Alexander will take care of the play-by-play duties, while ODU Hall of Famer and former NBA champion Dave Twardzik will handle color commentary. Ted and Dave’s live pregame show will begin at 1:30 p.m. EST on Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Looking Ahead
The Monarchs will return home to take on VCU on Dec. 10, on a night that ODU will retire Kent Bazemore’s jersey.
