NORFOLK, Va. - Jannik Giesse of Ketsch, Germany signed a NLI to Old Dominion University, as announced by head men’s tennis coach Dominik Mueller on Wednesday. Giesse marks Mueller’s first recruit since taking over in Norfolk in July.

“I couldn’t be more excited to add Jannik to the Monarch family,” said Mueller. “His personal and athletic qualities will add tremendous value and talent to our team. I’m glad we could convince him that ODU was the right place for him to achieve his goals.”

Also recruited by Oklahoma, LSU, Northwestern and Georgia State, Giesse is currently ranked No. 141 in the German men’s rankings and No. 7 in his age group. At one point, he reached an ITF Junior world ranking of 235.

Giesse is a two-time German Junior champion in doubles, a German Junior champion in singles, as well as a European Youth Olympic Festival winner in doubles.

The Tennis Monarchs wrapped up their fall season last weekend in Williamsburg. Old Dominion will return to action in 2017 on Jan. 14 at N.C. State, before hosting Richmond and Howard on Jan. 15 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
