NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team opens the 2016-17 season on Friday with a home matchup against Norfolk State at 7 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.
The game will be streamed live on CUSA.tv and can also be heard live on ESPN Radio 94.1. Both the live stream and radio broadcast will feature Doug Ripley (play-by-play) and Susan Montgomery (color).
Old Dominion (0-0, 0-0 C-USA) returns all but one player from a season ago, including all five starters. Conference USA's leading scorer last season Jennie Simms returns, along with fellow co-captain Destinee Young who nearly averaged a double-double last season with 9.9 points and 8.4 rebounds.
Overall, head coach Karen Barefoot, in her sixth season with the Lady Monarchs, returns the top 10 scorers from a season ago, while also welcoming back forward Odegua Oigbokie who missed all of 2015-16 with an injury.
Norfolk State (1-1, 0-0 MEAC) is coming off of a 99-59 home victory over Saint Augustine's on Tuesday, after opening the season with a 64-56 loss at UNC Wilmington. Four Spartans are averaging double figures through two games, led by senior guard Jordan Strode with a 13.5 points per game average.
