NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Karen Barefoot and the Old Dominion women's basketball program named seniors Jennie Simms and Destinee Young as team captains on Tuesday.

Both Simms and Young are now captains for the second consecutive season after serving as captains, along with the now-graduated LaQuanda Younger, last year.

Simms, a redshirt senior guard from Accokeek, Maryland, is a two-time All-Conference USA selection and is the seventh leading returning scorer in the nation after posting a 21.4 points per game average last season. Simms, who scored her 1,000th point last season, was ODU's lone representative on the C-USA Preseason All-Conference squad.

Young, a senior forward from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, enters her third year as a starter in the Lady Monarchs' frontcourt. Last year, Young averaged 9.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and led the team and ranked seventh in the conference with 34 blocks. Overall, Young recorded eight double-doubles last season and had a career performance in the win over Loyola (Md.), dumping in 28 points and pulling down 15 rebounds.

The Lady Monarchs host Davis & Elkins tonight at 7 p.m. in an exhibition for their first action of the season. Tickets are available at YNotTix.com
