NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team is set to host Davis & Elkins in a preseason exhibition on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.
Fans can follow the exhibition via Live Stats or in-game Twitter updates. Live video or radio will not be available.
Head coach Karen Barefoot and the Lady Monarchs return all but one player from last year's squad that ended the season with a run to the Conference USA Championship game. Headlining the returners are Jennie Simms, a preseason All-C-USA selection and the nation's seventh leading returning scorer, and two of C-USA's top-five rebounders last season in Ije Ajemba and Destinee Young. Overall, the Lady Monarchs return their top 10 scorers from a season ago.
In the C-USA Preseason Coaches' Poll, ODU, who earned two first-place votes, was picked to finish third in the league behind WKU and Middle Tennessee, respectively.
Davis & Elkins went 11-16 a year ago and was picked to finish fifth out of eight teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Last year, ODU defeated Davis & Elkins, 86-47, in an exhibition game at The Ted. Simms dumped in 43 points, while Gianna Smith added 13 points, as the Lady Monarchs outscored the Senators 49-20 in the second half.
This is the lone home exhibition of the season for ODU. The Lady Monarchs officially open the season on Nov. 18 against Norfolk State at The Ted.
