NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-4) dominated East Carolina (2-4) by a 5-1 score on Sunday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. ODU’s five goals marks the most goals in a game for the program since 2012, as well as is the most during Angie Hind’s tenure in Norfolk.

“Given our recent performances, I felt we were due a breakthrough game like this one tonight,” said Hind. “I felt our front-line of Madison Hogan, Iris Achterhof and Alex Davidson were so sharp tonight and really led the line fantastically well. In the second half, we really stepped up in our performance as a team and moved the ball well with patience and some composure. Despite the result on Thursday against William and Mary, I really feel we have played very well in both these games. This weekend has seen us come together as a team and learn what we are capable of.”

Madison Hogan scored the match’s first goal in the 20th minute off a Natalie Johnson assist to give the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

Iris Achterhof made it 2-0 for Old Dominion in the 28th minute off a Grace Haverly saved shot. The goal was Achterhof’s first of the 2016 season.

Madison Hogan scored her third goal of the season in the 29th minute off an Achterhof assist to give the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead.

The Pirates would answer back and score their only goal of the contest in the 35th minute, when Courtney Cash cashed in on an Autumn Berry assist to make the score 3-1 at halftime.

Kyra Ricks netted her first collegiate goal in the 64th minute to stretch ODU’s lead to 4-1.

It was freshman Alex Davidson who scored Old Dominion’s fifth and final goal of the evening in the 79th minute. The goal was Davidson’s second of her collegiate career.

For the match, ODU outshot ECU 15-10 and won the corner kick battle, 4-3. Old Dominion’s Krista Moisio made four saves in the winning effort.

The Lady Soccer Monarchs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 9, when they will travel to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest of the ACC at 7:00 p.m. The match will air live on ESPN 3.
