NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University swimming head coach Carol Withus has hired Robert Carlisle to coach the diving squad, Withus announced on Tuesday.

“ I am very excited to add Rob to our coaching staff. He is an expert in the sport of diving and brings valuable other skills to the team as he is also a university professor,” Withus said. “Rob’s passion for the sport of diving is evident every time he walks on the pool deck. We are very lucky to have Rob join our staff and we are looking forward to a bright future in diving.”

Carlisle brings vast experience to the position as he has coached both collegiate and club diving the last 15 years.

He has worked as a diving instructor at the Mainland Aquatic Center for three years, designing workouts for divers of all ages and skill levels.  He then became a private instructor, preparing both high school and college divers for competition.

He joined the college ranks at Rowan University from 2007-08 training the divers.  He helped one of the Rowan divers to a pair of top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships.

Following his time at Rowan, Carlisle joined the Ultimate Diving Team Junior Olympic Program as a coach and administrator.
