DETROIT, Mich. – Former Old Dominion basketball star Trey Freeman signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons, which will give the undrafted guard a spot at the Pistons’ training camp in September.

Freeman received a summer league invite to play with the Houston Rockets summer team, playing in all five games. He averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in 18.4 minutes of action.

Freeman played his final two collegiate seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16 with Old Dominion. He earned First Team All Conference USA honors for the second straight season last year and led the C-USA in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game, which ranked No. 11 in the country. Freeman’s output improved to 25.3 points per game against conference competition, including five games with 30 or more points against C-USA foes.

He scored 2,304 points during his collegiate career (first two seasons at Campbell), while pouring in an ODU all-time record of 838 points this past season, which ranked No. 3 in Division I/No. 1 in the C-USA. Freeman was also named to the All-Conference USA Academic Team for the second straight season. The senior captain from Virginia Beach, Va. ranked No. 1 in the country for made field goals with 323 in 2015-16.

After helping lead the Monarchs to the conference tournament championship, Freeman was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team, setting records for most points scored in tournament history with 109, as well as most points scored in a single game in tournament history with 42. For the tournament, Freeman averaged 27.3 points per game.

Freeman then was named to the All-Tournament Team for the inaugural Vegas 16 Tournament, while earning Tournament MVP honors.

Freeman was a three-time C-USA Player of the Week selection, earning the honor three weeks in a row, becoming the first player in league history to accomplish that feat. Freeman reached double figures in all but one game last season.
