ODUSports.com will have Q&A interviews with student-athletes throughout fall camp. Today's Q&A is with junior safety, Andre Bernhard.
Q: Why did you choose ODU?
A: I started off my career across the bridge at CNU, but it just wasn’t the right fit for me. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to walk on here.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hampton Roads?
A: I would have to say the beach. I love warm weather, and it is nice having the beach so close to us.
Q: What is your major and career plan?
A: I am majoring in accounting and finance with a minor in management. Hopefully I can work my way up from an accountant into a CFO spot.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: I would have to say Step Brothers. It is hilarious.
Q: Favorite music artist?
A: I like Lil Uzi and Denzel Curry.
Q: What is on your pregame playlist?
A: Definitely Denzel Curry. His songs get you excited to play defense.
Q: Favorite NFL team?
A: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, unfortunately. They haven’t been doing too well lately.
Q: Favorite food?
A: Chicken. I’ll eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Q: Favorite place to eat on campus?
A: I am going to have to say Sakura.
Q: Favorite part of gameday?
A: I like the exciting pregame. Running out to the music and hearing the crowd going crazy is exciting.
Q: Any pregame rituals?
A: I turn my playlist on, get in my little zone and just focus on what I have to do.
Q: Favorite athlete?
A: I would say Tyrann Mathieu. He is a great athlete across the board.
Q: Who do you look up to and why?
A: I definitely look up to my mom. She was a single mom and raised me so well. She taught me almost everything I know. I do everything for her, and she is a great example of the type of person I should be.
Q: What is something people don’t know about you?
A: This is kind of embarrassing, but I used to inline skate in kindergarten and first grade. I was second in the nation.
Q: After transferring to ODU you had to sit out a year then tore your ACL in your first game back. How hard was that?
A: Yeah, I tore my ACL in the first game against Eastern Michigan in the fourth quarter. The rehab here is great, so I feel great right now and am even stronger than I was before the injury. It really put me down at first because I sat out a whole year and worked hard all offseason leading up to that injury. A negative mindset slows your healing down, though, so I just stayed positive and fought through it.
Q: What are your goals for the season?
A: My individual goal is to make a big impact on this team. I want to have my presence known about being on the ODU football team. As a team, we want to win the conference because that will automatically take us to a bowl game.
