Meet the Monarchs: Denzel Williams Q&A

ODUSports.com will have Q&A interviews with student-athletes throughout fall camp, starting today with redshirt freshman safety, Denzel Williams.

Q: Why did you choose Old Dominion?
A: I chose ODU because I felt like they wanted me more than any other team. It felt like home on my visit. It felt like a family.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Hampton Roads?
A: I like being close to the water, and ODU is just a beautiful campus. It is nice that the campus isn’t too big because I can easily walk to class. I am also really close to home.

Q: What is your major?
A: My major is business management.

Q: What are your career plans?
A: If the NFL doesn’t work out, I would like to start my own business. I want to open up a gym or a recreation center for kids.

Q: Favorite food?
A: I would have to say crab legs and macaroni and cheese.

Q: Favorite movie?
A: My favorite movie is Friday.

Q: Favorite music artist?
A: I would have to say Young Thug.

Q: Favorite NFL team?
A: My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Q: Favorite part of game day?
A: I would have to say the Monarch Walk is my favorite part. Running through the tunnel with the smoke and the cheering fans just gives you such an adrenaline rush.

Q: Favorite part about playing safety?
A: My favorite part is making big hits. The hardest part about it is you have to be the last person to make that final tackle.

Q: What is on your playlist before a game?
A: Anything by Young Thug.

Q: Who is someone you look up to?
A: I look up to my mom because she showed me how to overcome adversity and raise her kids as best as she can as a single mom.

Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I am looking forward to playing NC State and Appalachian State. They are two of the best teams we will play this year. After last year, we are ready to make a statement against them. It will be fun to play in a big stadium with an intense crowd.

Q: Favorite memory at ODU?
A: My favorite memory was getting to be a part of the team as a redshirt last year. It was fun getting to experience the game day routine.

Q: If you could go anywhere on vacation where would you go?
A: I would probably go to Hawaii. I want to be close to the nice-looking water.

Q: What are your team goals for the season?
A: The main goal is always to be a champion. As a team, we want to just build a stronger bond, which will help us achieve our goals. We need to be enthusiastic and dedicated to winning.
