Throughout the summer ODUSports.com will talk to coaches and student-athletes to get to know them better. Today's Q&A is with sophomore safety, Sean Carter. A walk-on, Carter finished sixth on the team with 48 tackles and recovered two fumbles.

Q: Last year you came in low on the depth chart and ended up playing a lot. How were you able to go from where you started, to seeing a lot of time on the field?
SC: I knew once I got my school work together, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to play, but I knew that I could play and that I could compete every day. Once my school work got sorted out I was good to go.

Q: You are a key contributor on special teams. What is your mindset when you take the field with the special teams?
SC: To make sure I do my job. On kickoff or kick return, to make sure I don’t mess up and have everything else breakdown. Special teams is just like offense and defense, as long as everyone does their job we’re going to be successful.

Q: The safety group lost Fellonte Misher, but everyone else has pretty much returned. How does that help the competition between each other?
SC: It helps because we all know what we’re doing. Last year we had some new guys and we had to catch up, but now we’re all on the same page. We know that any one of us can go out there and play 60-70 snaps, because we all know what we’re doing.

Q: Who do you hang out with off the field?
SC: The safety group, we stick together, sometimes the other groups, but many times just the safeties.

Q: Why did you choose Old Dominion?
SC: When I graduated high school I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college. The schools that were recruiting me were Division II and III schools, and that wasn’t what I wanted. I knew I was better, I played linebacker at 180 pounds and that’s not something that people want. Talking to my coach, he said if I’m good at safety more schools will want me, but that wasn’t the case until I called Old Dominion. I made the transition to safety, it has been a long two years but I’m getting better.

Q: What is your major?
SC: Sport Management.

Q: When did you get started playing football?
SC: I was six years old. My cousin was eight, he played and I played on his team, even though I wasn’t supposed to because I was too young. That was how I got started.

Q: Where is your dream vacation?
SC: I want to go to Hawaii. Maybe we can get there for a bowl game, but that would be my dream spot.

Q: What superpower would you like to have?
SC: Teleportation.

Q: Favorite Movie

SC: The new Captian America movie.

Q: Favorite TV Show?
SC: Friends.

Q: Who is the funniest guy on the team?
SC: David Washington.
