NORFOLK, Va. -- With the Old Dominion field hockey season quickly approaching, ODUSports.com will feature all eight newcomers for the 2016 season with a two-part series. Part two will highlight Rebecca Birch, Alexandria Brewer and Lacey Frazier.

Rebecca Birch, Leeds, United Kingdom (The Grammar School at Leeds)

Birch, an incoming freshman from Leeds, United Kingdom, led The Grammar School at Leeds to two fourth-place finishes at the national championships and an unbeaten regular season in 2015-16. While participating with the York club team, her squad clinched first place at nationals and appeared in the indoor national finals twice. Birch served as captain of her field hockey team while also participating in swimming, softball and tennis.

“The atmosphere and friendliness of the team and coaching staff was comforting, especially being so far from home,” Birch said.

Alexandria Brewer, Virginia Beach, Va. (Cox)

Brewer, a local product from Virginia Beach, helped Cox High School capture the 2014 Virginia 6A State Field Hockey Championship. Amassing 64 goals and 31 assists throughout her career, Brewer was named first team All-Conference, All-Tidewater, All-Region and All-State following the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Off the field, she was named to the 2015 NFHCA High School National Academic Squad.

“I chose to come to ODU because of the outstanding athletics program and coaching staff,” Brewer stated.

Lacey Frazier, Virginia Beach, Va. (Princess Anne)

Also hailing from Virginia Beach, Frazier, a goalkeeper, anchored the Princess Anne High School squad that won the 2014 Virginia 5A state crown. During her junior campaign, she racked up 18 shutouts and only allowed 10 goals in 23 games en route to being named to the All-Tidewater team. In her senior season, Frazier recorded 13 shutouts and earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-State recognition.

“The winning culture of the field hockey team paired with the amazing science programs created the ideal school for me,” Frazier said.
