NORFOLK, Va. – Zach Rutherford (Chesapeake, Va.) of the Old Dominion University baseball team will start at shortstop in the 2016 Friendly's Cape Cod League All-Star Game. The annual all-star matchup between the East Division and West Division is slated for Saturday, July 23, at Veterans Field in Chatham, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.

Rutherford, a rising junior for ODU, plays for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks within the Cape Cod League and is leading the league in extra base hits. His batting average is currently .299.
The Cape Cod League is the most prestigious summer league in the country. Each year, it is the largest concentration of high level drafts picks for the MLB draft. A total of 292 past players from the summer league are now playing in the MLB.
After making the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2015, Rutherford followed that up with an impressive 2016, as he started all 56 games for the Monarchs. He led ODU with a .311 batting average and 70 hits, which included 10 doubles, three triples and two home runs. He was also second on team with 29 RBI’s.
Rutherford finished last season seventh in the C-USA for triples, eighth in sac bunts with nine, 10th with 12 stolen bases & 12th in hits. He also compiled a .960 fielding percentage with 86 putouts, while leading the conference with 201 assists. The right-handed shortstop was named to the Wallace Award Watch List, which honors the nation's top shortstop. He was also a C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.
