Monarch Sailors Place Fifth at America Trophy

THROGS NECK, N.Y. -- The Old Dominion sailing team recorded a fifth-place finish at the America Trophy/MAISA Dinghy Championship Regatta this weekend out of 18 participating schools. 

St. Mary's College of Maryland earned the team title, while Georgetown, Navy, George Washington and Old Dominion rounded out the top five, respectively. The Monarchs placed ahead of the likes of Penn, Cornell, Virginia, Maryland and Syracuse, among others. 

In Division A, Esteban Forrer and Gabriel Smith raced to a fourth-place finish, falling only behind St. Mary's, Georgetown and Navy.

Placing fourth in Division B, Augie Dale and Kaylie Gallagher were bested only by Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Navy and George Washington.

The ODU sailing team gets back on the water on May 24 at the ICSA/Sperry Topsider Women's National Championship in San Diego, California.
