NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion baseball returns to the field for one of two midweek games left in the season on Wednesday, May 11 in Lynchburg, Va. against the Liberty Flames. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on ESPN3 and Monarch Media (audio only).

ODU leads the all-time series that began in 1982, 36-24, and is on a two-game winning streak over the Flames. Earlier this season, the Monarchs defeated Liberty in spectacular fashion as Connor Myers blasted a solo walk-off home run to earn the 7-6 victory at the Bud. Myers’ walk-off homer was the first since Mike Perez led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo homer against Longwood at the Bud on May 15, 2013.

The Monarchs are 17-6 against non-conference foes this season and are 5-0 on Wednesdays. Myers and Zach Rutherford lead the team offensively, as both hold a batting average over .300. Myers is hitting .323 and has knocked a team leading 60 hits and 32 RBIs, while Rutherford sits at .321 and is tied with Myers with 60 hits. The two speedy starters have combined to steal 26 bases and join Nick Walker (18-22) as the only players to record 10-plus steals.

As a team, ODU is hitting .259 and has accumulated 404 hits, including 76 doubles, 12 triples and 19 home runs. Myers and Turner Bishop lead the team with 5 and 4 homers, respectively. The pitching staff holds a 4.59 ERA in 417.1 innings and has notched 279 strikeouts.

Liberty is coming off 3-0 sweep at the hands of then No. 23 Coastal Carolina at the Liberty Baseball Stadium, including a 17-3 loss in the series finale. With the losses, Liberty fell to 7-11 in Big South play and 22-26 overall, as the Flames are currently on a four-game losing streak. In the loss on Sunday, Will Shepherd went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the contest for Liberty, which marked the junior's fifth three-hit and his 20th multiple-hit game this season.

D.J. Artis leads the pack with a .365 batting average and 65 hits. He is also a threat on the base paths as he has stolen 21 bases in 23 attempts. Three other Liberty players hold an average over .300 and have combined for 179 hits. As a team, Liberty is hitting .279 and the team holds a 5.45 ERA.
