WALLACE, N.C. -- Maggie Simmermacher improved by nine strokes in the second round of the River Landing Classic to move into 13th place out of 75 golfers, as the ODU women's golf team climbed into fourth place out of 13 teams on day one.
Harvard leads the team race through two rounds, while Penn State climbed into second and 30th-ranked East Carolina fell back to third. Old Dominion is in fourth place just five strokes behind the Lady Pirates.
Individually, Maggie Simmermacher fired a 81-72=153 on day one to settle into 13th place, while Sana Tufail and Katerina Vlasinova are just one stroke behind, tied with one another for 17th place. Charlotte De Corte is tied for 26th and Rachel Walker is tied for 47th. Competing as an individual, Charlotte Hindmoor shot a 78-79=157 and is in 33rd place.
As a team, the Lady Monarchs have the third-best par four scoring average (4.35) and the third-most pars (107) after two rounds.
Tufail recorded 26 pars in the first two rounds, which ties for second-most of all 75 participants so far. Vlasinova had 25 pars and Hindmoor had 24.
The third and final round of the River Landing Classic begins tomorrow morning with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
