ODU Sailing Qualifies for National Championship

GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Old Dominion sailing team capped off a productive weekend at three separate events and the women punched their ticket to the 2016 Sperry College Sailing Women's National Championships to be held May 24-27 in San Diego. 

At the MAISA Women's Championship in Geneva, New York, Old Dominion posted a seventh-place finish out of 16 teams. Grace Mason, Molly Sternberg and Kaylie Gallagher notched an eighth-place finish in Division A while Olivia Windemuller, Katelyn Talley and Jocelyn Rovniak placed seventh in Division B. The Lady Monarchs will now look forward to competing at the national championships beginning May 24 in San Diego, California. 

The Monarch sailors also notched a 13th-place finish at the Admiral's Cup in Kings Point, New York. In Division A, Joe David and Carter Little took 11th out of 20 teams. Jack Elkin and Dane Pedersen placed 12th in Division B, and Ethan Lounsbury raced to a 10th-place result in Division C. 

Competing at the Robert P. Arrigan Memorial Regatta, ODU turned in a runner-up finish out of eight schools, falling to only Georgetown. Alec Chicoine and Abby Lockler placed third in Division A and third overall while Lee Dumaliang and Tori Ewing placed highest of all Division B sailors and took fourth overall. 

The ODU sailing team is back in action next weekend at the America Trophy in Throgs Neck, New York.
