TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Fresh off of capturing the Greenbrier Invite two weeks ago, red-hot ODU freshman Nick Rencis fired a three-unnder 69 on day one of the Conference USA Championships in Texarkana, Arkansas to move into second place out of 65 golfers. The Monarchs are currently in third place out of 13 teams.

No. 38 UAB leads the team race after round one, while Louisiana Tech is just one stroke behind in second. North Texas, Marshall and Old Dominion are tied for third, as each team shot a 292.

Individually, UAB's Taylor Eyster shot an eight-under 64 to jump out to an early lead. ODU's Rencis is tied for second place with Marshall's Clark Robinson after both fired a three-under 69, and the Monarchs' Antonio Cruz-Conde impressed in the opening round by firing a two-under 70, landing him in fourth place.

Old Dominion has fired 16 birdies as a team so far, which ties the Monarchs for first place with LA Tech and UAB.

Rencis is tied for the lowest-par three scoring average (2.75) of all 65 golfers in the field, while Cruz-Conde is tied for best par four scoring average (3.70). Cruz-Conde also sunk seven birdies, which ties for first.
