NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team hosted their annual Alumni Weekend, as current and past players, as well as staff got together to catch up with lifelong friends while making new ones, relive memories, play soccer and give back to the program.
The festivities began with a brunch at the Springhill Suites on campus, where alumni and current players enjoyed playing in various raffles and games. The brunch was highlighted with a speech from Senior captain Kathryn Hill and alumni Tina DiFerdinando (class of 2005). Hill spoke on her journey to Old Dominion and the tremendous support she has received from everyone involved in the program since she arrived on campus. DiFerdinando stressed the importance of the special relationships you build while being a student-athlete at ODU.
After brunch the group made their way to the Old Dominion Soccer Complex where teams were drafted consisting of alumni and current players squaring off for a 50 minute 11 vs. 11 game. The event concluded with pizza and drinks.
The overall event allowed for a lot of interaction between current players and alumni, which is important to the overall success of the program.
The Alumni Weekend is just one of several events that the Old Dominion women’s soccer team hosts, and hopes to grow the event each year.
The Lady Soccer Monarch’s will close out their spring season away at VCU in Richmond on Saturday, April 23.
