NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion Monarchs' five-game winning streak came to an end after suffering a 3-0 shutout at the hands of the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. ODU fell to 24-11 overall and an even 7-7 in Conference USA, while UTSA improved to 13-21 on the season and 4-10 in league action.

UTSA took the 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning after Matt Hilston tripled down the right field line to score J.T. Gilmore from first base. Victor Diaz ended the inning by forcing the final two batters to ground out to third base. The Roadrunners tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth to reach the 3-0 margin. Gilmore reached on an error by the first baseman and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hilston walked for the second time, putting two runners on for UTSA with Tyler Straub at the plate who proceeded to knock a two RBI double to left field.

The Monarchs best chance to score came in the eighth inning, as pinch hitter Chris Livers led off with a double to left field. Bryce Windham came in to run for Livers, but on a Justin Hayes strikeout he was thrown out at third trying to steal. Nick Walker registered the final out by flying out to center field.

Myers and Jason McMurray both went 2-for-4 for the Monarchs, while Livers registered a hit on his only at bat. As a team, ODU left 10 on base, compared to five for the Roadrunners.
