NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion sailing team notched a runner-up finish at the ODU Open this weekend behind only Hampton, while the Lady Monarch sailors captured fifth place in the 18-team field. ODU also claimed a sixth place finish at the Bob Bavier Team Race in Charleston, South Carolina.

Jack Elkin and Stephen Guglielmo sailed to a first place finish out of 18 in Division B of the ODU Open, while Olivia Windemuller and Molly Sternberg grabbed third for the Lady Monarchs. Elkin and Guglielmo turned in three first place finishes. 

In Division A, Alec Chicoine and Abigail Lockler placed third for the Monarchs, and Grace Mason and Jocelyn Rovniak registered a sixth place finish for the Lady Monarchs. Chicoine and Lockler won two separate races for ODU.

At the Bob Bavier Team Race, Old Dominion placed sixth, finishing ahead of Navy and South Florida. The Monarchs were represented by Esteban Forrer, Joseph David, Jeremy Herrin, Augie Dale, Gabriel Smith, Katelyn Talley, Kaylie Gallagher and Cady Johnson

The ODU sailing team gets back in action on Saturday, March 12 at the John Jackson Team Race in Alexandria, Virginia and at the Navy Spring Women's in Annapolis, Maryland.
