KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2015-16 NABC Division I All-District teams and coaches and Old Dominion’s Trey Freeman garnered First Team honors for District 11. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the selected student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.
Freeman earned First Team All Conference-USA honors for the second straight season and led the C-USA in scoring, averaging 22.2 points per game, which ranks No. 11 in the country. He has scored 2,244 points during his collegiate career, while pouring in 778 points this season (pre-Vegas 16 tournament). Freeman was also named to the All-Conference USA Academic Team for the second straight season.
The senior captain from Virginia Beach, Va. ranks No. 1 in the country for made field goals this season with 300 and ranks No. 3 in Division I/No. 1 in the C-USA for total points (778). That output improved to 25.3 points per game against conference competition, including five games with 30 or more points against C-USA foes.
After helping lead the Monarchs to the conference tournament championship, Freeman was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team, setting records for most points scored in tournament history with 109, as well as most points scored in a single game in tournament history with 42. For the tournament, Freeman averaged 27.3 points per game.
Freeman was a three-time C-USA Player of the Week selection, earning the honor three weeks in a row, becoming the first player in league history to accomplish that feat. Freeman reached double figures in all but one game this season.
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
