NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University Football held its first spring football practice on Tuesday morning at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex practice fields.
The Monarchs suited up 86 players in helmets for the first day of practice, however, 47 players took part in practice while 39 worked on conditioning drills.
"We had 47 that got to practice and 39 that did not achieve the goals that were set for them in the conditiong program," ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said. "A small number of guys practiced but we had to get the point across to everybody. We've been a .500 ball club the last two years and that is because we've had half the team working really hard and the other half doing enough to get by and that has to stop."
The defense led the day as the defensive line led Miles Fox and Oshane Ximines got pressure on the quarterback and Richard Thomas intercepted a tipped pass and returned it for a touchdown.
The bright spot for the offense was a pair of nice runs by running backs Jeremy Cox and Gemonta Jackson.
