IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion sophomore tennis player Adam Moundir was named Conference USA Player of the Week after upsetting the No. 18 ranked player in the nation in straight sets on Sunday.
Moundir had himself quite a weekend in the No. 1 slot for ODU, as he stunned the No. 18 ranked player in country, Doyvdas Sakinas (6-4, 6-4) to lead the Monarchs to a 4-3 upset over No. 34 ranked Dartmouth. Last year, Sakinas was named the Ivy League Player of the Year after becoming the first Dartmouth men’s tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship since 1994.
Dartmouth came to Norfolk after impressively taking down three top 75 nationally ranked teams, including a 4-3 win over No. 32 Tulane two weekends ago. With the victory, the Tennis Monarchs remain perfect 4-0 at home for the 2016 season.
The day before Old Dominion downed Dartmouth, Moundir also led ODU to a 6-1 win over Penn, as Moundir claimed victories in No. 1 singles, as well as No. 1 doubles.
It is the second C-USA weekly honor in Moundir's career and first of the season. Last season, Moundir was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
