NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion men’s golf team is set to commence the spring season this weekend at The Farms Collegiate Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The event will take place Monday, Feb. 8 and Tuesday, Feb. 9 at The Farms Golf Club.
Competing in this year’s invitational will be Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Old Dominion, Seattle University, SMU, USF, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and San Diego. The tournament will begin Monday, Feb. 8 with an 11:15 a.m. (EST) shotgun start. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
LOOKING AHEAD
ODU will take its second trip to the west coast on Feb. 18 when the Monarchs compete in the Desert Invitational in Palm Springs, California.
In March, ODU heads to the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on March 11 and will close out the month at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia on March 19.
The Monarchs are poised to then tackle the East Carolina Intercollegiate in Greenville, North Carolina on April 3, the Greenbrier Invitational on April 10 in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia and close out the regular season at the Conference USA Championships in Texarkana, Arkansas on April 24.
FALL RECAP
In his 40th season at the helm, head coach Murray Rudisill opened up the fall portion of the 2015-16 season on the right note, leading the Monarchs to third place finishes in the Firestone Invitational and the ODU/OBX Invite out of 16 and 18 teams, respectively. He also guided ODU to a fourth place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge out of 18 participating schools.
Individually, freshman Calvin Greschner made an immediate impact for the Monarchs, earning C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week honors on Oct. 12 after placing 12th at the Firestone Invite. Junior David Langley also set an ODU record by shooting a 63 in the first round of the ODU/OBX Invitational.
Academically, Antonio Cruz-Conde, Chad Hess and Seth Sweet earned Dean’s List distinction in the fall of 2015.
RECRUITING
On the recruiting trail, Rudisill announced the signing of Casper Aneman from Stockholm, Sweden. Aneman has played on the Skandia Tour Elite and on the Junior Masters Invitational Tour. He also represented Stockholm’s Golf Club in the Junior Swedish Championships in the finals in Portugal last year and was the champion at the Huvudstaden Junior Open on the Junior Masters Invitational Tour.
In 2015, he was honored by Stockholm’s Golf Club with the “Best Performance of the Year” award.
Aneman has also excelled in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA and multiple academic awards to go along with his diploma.
