SAN FRANCISCO -- The Old Dominion sailing team registered a fifth place finish out of 10 participating schools at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race in San Francisco over the weekend.
Serving as the host of the event, Stanford's Cardinal team captured the title while UC Santa Barbara finished as the runner-up. The Stanford White team clinched third while Santa Barbara City College and Old Dominion rounded out the top five, respectively. The Monarchs finished ahead of Hawaii, USC, Northwestern, Cal Berkeley and Cal Poly.
After competing in nine races, ODU compiled a 6-3 record. The Monarchs opened up with back-to-back victories over Berkeley and Northwestern before losing to Santa Barbara City College. ODU then picked up a win over Cal Poly but fell to both Stanford teams before finishing the event strong with three consecutive wins over UC Santa Barbara, Hawaii and USC.
Esteban Forrer, Augie Dale and Jeremy Herrin were the Monarchs' skippers for the event while Gabriel Smith, Kaylie Gallagher and Grace Mason were crew.
The ODU sailors hit the water on Saturday, March 5 at the ODU Open in Norfolk and at the Bob Bavier Team Race in Charleston, South Carolina.
